Small tapestries and collage

Two artists declaring their own way of looking and finding with this exhibition. They present work with a slow careful eye behind it. With the same approach behind it; an alchemist’s conjuring of place, or mood said in colour or form.

David Ingrey Started working life as a letterpress printer, and through courses textile design and printmaking His work is inspired by his love of mid century architecture, and his fascination for small details. It begins with photographs taken as he walks round cities; these images are turned into collages, with colours inspired by layers of peeling paint and chipped walls. The tapestries then become a patchwork of geometric shapes and textures. David says, I feel I am on a deeply personal journey, developing a style I feel has originality and artistic value.

John Berry John Berry says about his collages They may remind you of something, or resonate an emotion or something familiar. He has a practice of acquiring the ‘basic tools’, ‘found fragments’; papers, card, old newspapers and combining them, looking at the shape, colour and texture over a period of time, until the composition balance of each one feels right. He has had a studio in Selkirk for the last twenty years and has a background as an illustrator.
